Testing Information |
The Andover Admission Office has announced an update to its application requirements for the 2021-22 admission
cycle (for applicants for entrance in September 2022). Due to several factors including the ongoing global
pandemic and concerns about access to standardized testing, we have decided to pilot the following changes to
our application requirements:
9TH AND 10TH GRADE APPLICANTS: ANDOVER WILL BE TEST OPTIONAL FOR THE 2021-22 ADMISSION CYCLE We know that many applicants will still take the SSAT or ISEE and will want to submit their results with their applications. However, we also know that access to these tests may be challenging for many applicants and, therefore, we will not require the SSAT or ISEE. Our longstanding practice has been to evaluate all components of a student’s application without focusing solely on standardized test results. We assess the applicant’s fit for Andover using a comprehensive, committee-based process that takes into account all aspects of a student’s application. Students who do not submit standardized testing will not be penalized in our assessment process this year. If students wish to supplement their application with standardized tests they have already taken, we will consider school-, state-, or country-mandated test results from previous years. 11TH GRADE, 12TH GRADE, AND POSTGRADUATE APPLICANTS: ANDOVER WILL BE TEST OPTIONAL FOR THE 2021-22 ADMISSION CYCLE We know that many applicants will still take the PSAT, SAT, or ACT and will want to submit their results with their applications. However, we also know that access to these tests may be challenging for many applicants and, therefore, we will not require any of these tests. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT ALL GRADE LEVELS Students whose native language is not English—and who do not attend a school where English is the primary language of instruction—should take either the TOEFL iBT or the IELTS. As a guideline, most international students who are admitted to Andover score above 100 on the TOEFL iBT or an average of 7.5 on the IELTS. If you are unable to submit the TOEFL iBT or IELTS due to financial concerns or COVID-19 restrictions, please email admissions@andover.edu or call (978) 749-4050 so that we may document that in your application file and waive the requirement accordingly. Please include your full legal name, date of birth, mailing address, and the grade to which you are applying, in your email with the subject line “TOEFL/IELTS.” |
